Tars Excel at C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational

WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 21, 2017) – The Tars hosted schools from around the Sunshine State Conference to Rollins campus for the 2017 C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational.  The Rollins women's team battled to earn results throughout the weekend, competing in both doubles and singles competitions, in the second event of the Tars' fall season. 

Fabiana Vitanza highlighted the Tars singles play in the tournament.  The senior advanced to the finals of the Women's Singles Flight A Bracket.  Katie Dyson, Carly Goldman, and Alexandra Borg also competed in Flight A for Rollins.  Savanna Fuller advanced to the finals in Flight B, while Teresa Kaiser won the consolation portion of Flight B.  Marie Debruyn finished third in the Flight.  Paula Collado also won the consolation portion of her bracket in Flight C.

Vitanza and Borg earned a third place finish in Women's Flight A Double competition.  The pair ran away with an 8-1 victory in the third place match.  Debruyn and Goldman joined Vitanza and Borg and Tars pairs in the Flight A bracket.  Fuller and Kaiser finished undefeated in Flight B of doubles actions, earning a trio of dominating wins, 8-0, 8-1, and 8-1, over the two days.

Rollins will conclude their fall season with the Clay Court Championships in Lake Wales, Florida.  Play will take place from Friday, October 27, through Sunday, October 29.
