SAINT LEO, Fla. (September 3, 2016) - After
waiting an extra day for the rain to pass, the Tars could not
overcome the Wingate Bulldogs, falling by a final score of 3-0.
The loss drops No. 17 Rollins to 0-1 in the new season, while the
No. 18 Bulldogs improve to 1-0.
Rollins managed only five shots in the match, putting one on
target. Stefan
Avram led the way with two attempts and forcing the Wingate
keeper into his only save with a second half header. Drew
Trautmann played all 90 minutes in net for Rollins, making four
saves.
Wingate got on the board in the 30th minute on a goal
from Askel Juul, he was assisted by Garrett Bridewater. Callum
Ross buried a penalty kick late in first half to give the Bulldogs
a 2-0 lead. Christian Szalay put in the third goal with an assist
from Vincente Munoz. Pablo Jara made one save for Wingate.
NOTES:
· The game was physical, as five yellow cards were
handed out; two were presented to Wingate, while Alexis
Martinez, Ray
Gerke, and Fritz
Engel went in the book for Rollins.
· Head Coach Keith
Buckley still sits on 298 career wins, just two away from
300.
· The Tars overcame early season struggles last year to
become SSC Conference Tournament Champions and reach the NCAA
Tournament.
