MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (April 22, 2016)
- The Tars took an early lead but we're unable to
hang on, falling to the Barry Buccaneers in their series opener.
With the loss Rollins falls to 21-20 on the season, and 6-13 in the
Sunshine State Conference. Barry improves to 21-20, and 5-11 in SSC
play.
Mike
Dolan recorded two RBI for Rollins. The left fielder finished
the contest 1-4 from the plate. Christopher
Corbett went 1-3 on the evening, driving in two runs, and
scoring one. Nick
Breen went 2-5, registering and RBI and scoring
twice.
Brian
Auerbach got the start on the mound for the Tars. The righty
threw 4.1 innings, striking out four, while giving up 11 runs,
picking up his fifth loss of the year. He was relieved by Brett
Scafidi who threw 1.2 innings, giving up three runs, only two
earned, on five hits. Jonathan
Rivera was third Rollins pitcher of the evening, he surrendered
four runs, three earned, without recording an out. Isaiah
Sakany closed out the game for Rollins throwing three innings,
giving up two runs, and striking out three.
Rollins jumped on the board first. Dolan took advantage of
some early Barry mistakes, hitting a two run double over the
centerfielder's head. Grant
Ashline and Breen scored on the play.
The Buccaneers pulled a run back in the second courtesy of a
solo homerun to centerfield. Barry was able to blow the game open
in the middle innings, scoring eight runs, including hitting a pair
of homeruns, in the third, and manufacturing four runs in the
fourth.
The Tars ended the streak in the fifth when Isaiah
Russell lead off the frame with a double and crossed home on an
Ashline sacrifice fly. Barry responded, pulling the run back in
the bottom of the fifth. The Bucs loaded the bases with nobody
out, but the Tars were able to escape the frame surrendering only
one. The score after five innings was 14-3 in favor of
Barry.
Rollins fought back into the game with four runs in the top
of the sixth. A Breen double to left field sent Teddy
Meissner home to open the scoring. Corbett then tripled up the
middle, scoring Breen and Ashline. Finally, a Mike
Purcell single sent Corbett across home for the fourth run of
the frame. The Bucs again pushed the Tars back, registering six
runs in the bottom of the frame, making the score 20-7.
Ashline opened the eighth inning reaching on a hit by pitch.
The third baseman then advanced to third on a Purcell double and
scored on a balk by the Buc's pitcher. Purcell tallied the Tars
ninth run, scoring from third when Dolan got caught in a pickle
between first and second. That was as close as the Tars could come,
as they dropped the game by a final of 20-9.
The Tars and the Buccaneers will resume their series with a
double header tomorrow, Saturday, April 23. Game one is scheduled
to begin at 1 p.m.For the latest news, updates, and
