WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 17, 2016) - The Tars
won their third match in their last four on Sunday, defeating
Florida Tech, 7-2, on Senior Day. Rollins concludes their regular
season at 8-13 overall and 2-4 in the SSC while the Panthers fall
to 11-10 and 1-5 in conference play.
The Tars set the tone early, taking two of the three doubles
matches to take a 2-1 lead heading into the singles portion of the
match. In the No. 1 match, Anton
Bettink and Casey
Austgen moved to a perfect 4-0 when paired together with a 8-6
win over Ricardo Corona and JJ Clark while Robin
Marchione and Adrian Di
Felice beat Aria Canadell and Tjimon Louisy, 8-4, in the No. 2
match. The win was the first for Marchione and Di Felice when
paired together.
In singles, Bettink took down Canadell in three sets in the No.
1 spot while Austgen defeated Corona in a closely contested match,
7-6, (7-3), 7-5, in the No. 2 hole. The win pulled Austgen to an
even 8-8 for the Spring.
Di Felice also carried his momentum into singles, defeating
Foresight Okungbowa, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 4 match. Ahmed
Albitar won his fourth singles match in a row with a three set
win in the No. 5 spot with Ziad
Melhaoui knocking off Jose Martinez in straight sets 6-2, 6-4
in the No. 6 match.
The Tars will now await seeding for the 2016 SSC Tennis
Championships that will be held on April 28-30 in Tampa, Flal.
