WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 16, 2016) - The
Rollins College softball team dropped the opening game of their
weekend series versus Barry University on Saturday night, 3-1. The
Tars fall to 33-10-1 on the year and 13-3 in conference while Barry
improves to 20-14 overall and 12-7 in the SSC.
Barry's Kayla Ogle got things started in the third after
reaching base with a single up the middle. Ogle then stole second
and eventually scored on a double to left center by Lynsey Duncan
to give the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead.
The Bucs wasted no time to add to their lead as Cheyanne Head
hit an RBI double to right center field to make it 2-0. Alayna
Gallagher then hit an infield single to score Head to put the Bucs
up 3-0.
Rollins' bats were silent for most of the game, but threatened
in the seventh. It all began after Brittany
Johnson was hit by a pitch for the 12th time this
year. That is three more times than the rest of the team combined.
Brianne
Lint then doubled to right center to put runners on second and
third.
Barry's pitcher threw a wild pitch allowing Johnson to score
while advancing Lint to third to close the deficit to two runs. Niki
Fogle would walk to put runners on the corners, but Barry got
out of the jam to claim the 3-1 victory.
Fogle took the loss after going seven innings, allowing eight
hits, three runs, four walks and striking out three. The Tars
offense only had two hits on the day, but collected three
walks.
Rollins returns to action tomorrow as they complete the weekend
series against Barry with a doubleheader. Game one is slated to
begin at 1:00 p.m. For the latest news, updates, and information on
