WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 16, 2016) - The No.
27-ranked Tars hosted No. 43 Texas A&M-Kingsville on Wednesday
afternoon, eventually knocking off the Javelinas, 7-2. With the
win, Rollins improves to 5-3 on the year while TAMUK falls to
4-10.
The Tars controlled the match from the start, jumping out to a
commanding 3-0 lead after doubles.
In the No. 1 match, Shannon
Etten and Carli
Davis made quick work of Nadia Grlj and Paula Saenz, 8-2,
improving to 5-3 as a pair this spring. In the No. 2 spot, Johanna
Olsson and Teresa
Kaiser knocked off Mariaxi Herrera and Erika Larrea, 8-4, while
Emma
Wookey and Fabiana
Vitanza partnered to beat Madi Gomez and Marija Dimitrovka,
8-6, in the No. 3 match.
In singles, TAMUK took the No. 1 and No. 2 matches with Etten
sitting out but Rollins was never really threatened, taking matches
3-6 all in straight sets.
Olsson improved to 5-3 in singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win the in the
No. 3 spot while Savanna
Fuller continued to roll, improving to 8-0 on the year with a
6-0, 6-1 win over Saenz in the No. 4 match.
Vitanza and Wookey also took care of business in straight sets
in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches.
Rollins will be right back at it on Thursday, hosting Bluefield
State at 4 p.m.
