WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 11, 2016) - On a night that saw the Rollins College softball team honor 10 alumni before the game, the Tars were able to edge Eckerd College in extra innings to stay perfect in SSC play. Niki Fogle collected her tenth win of the year in the 2-1 victory.

Rollins improves to 17-4-1 on the year and 4-0 in SSC play, while the Tritons fall to 12-10-1 overall and 1-3 in conference.

Eckerd jumped out to the early 1-0 lead as Carrie Shere led off with a home run just over the left center fence in the top of the first. Fogle settled down after that as she retired the next 10 batters.

The Tars were able to tie the game in the bottom of the third after Hannah Horwath led off with a double to right field and then advancing to third on a wild pitch. That is all Hailee Keisling needed as the junior recorded her fourth RBI of the season singling up the middle scoring Horwath.

The remainder of the game was a pitching duel between the senior, Fogle and the freshman, Nikole Van Gennep of Eckerd. Both pitchers allowed just seven hits combined over the next seven innings of play.

Rollins capitalized in the bottom of the ninth after Courtney Durbin went to lay down a sacrifice bunt to advance Brittany Johnson, who was previously hit by a pitch. Freshman pitcher, Van Gennep fielded the bunt, but threw over the first basemen's head which saw the ball roll all the way to the fence. Johnson scored from first securing the 2-1 victory for the Tars in walk-off fashion

Individually, Johnson and Horwath went 1-3 with each scoring a run. Fogle allowed five hits, one run, no walks and struck out eleven.

The Tars return to action tomorrow as they complete the weekend series with Eckerd with a doubleheader. Game one is slated to begin at 2 p.m. For the latest news, updates, and information on the Rollins softball team, fans can visit RollinsSports.com.
