WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 5, 2016) - The Tars
took game one of their three game series against Young Harris by a
score of 5-1. With the win Rollins improves to 2-2 overall, and
1-2 in Sunshine State Conference play. The Mountain Lions drop to
0-1, and remain 0-0 in Peach Belt Conference action.
At the plate, leadoff man Nick
Breen paced the Tars. Breen finished the contest 4-4,
including his first homerun of the season, a two run shot in the
third inning. Mike
Dolan and Grant
Ashline each tallied three hits. Tyler
Fairbanks matched Breen with two RBI. Isaiah
Russell registered his first collegiate hit, and scored a
run.
Isaiah
Sakany was dominant on the mound for Rollins, throwing 7.2
innings, giving up only one run on four hits, and striking out
seven. He was relieved by Matt
Hendricks. The senior closed the game out, throwing 1.1
perfect innings and striking out two, recording his first save of
the season.
Young Harris scored on a homerun off the bat of Zach Beggs.
Donald Frew got the loss for the Mountain Lions, surrendering five
runs on 13 hits, in six innings of work. Bryan Syphoe saw the game
out, pitching two innings, giving up two hits and no runs.
The Tars jumped out to an early lead scoring two runs in the
second inning. Dolan and Ashline lead off the inning with
back-to-back hits. Skip
Kovar and Fairbanks were each able to advance runners home on
fielder's choice plays, and the Tars took a 2-0 lead.
Rollins would extend their lead in the next frame. Russell lead
off the inning with his first Rollins hit, a single up the middle,
before Breen drove him in with a two run home run, doubling the
lead to 4-0. Rollins would extend the lead to 5-0 in the sixth
inning. Kovar doubled to right center field, and then was driven
in by a Fairbanks single.
Beggs opened the top of the eighth inning with a homerun for
Young Harris, cutting the Rollins lead to 5-1. But it was too
little, too late, as the Tars closed out the game to secure the
victory
Rollins and Young Harris will continue their three game series
tomorrow, Saturday, February 6. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00
