26th-ranked Rollins traveled West on Sunday to begin a
three match stretch in California over Sprink break. The Tars met
No. 16 UC-San Diego to open the trip, falling to the Tritons, 5-4.
It marks the third time in five matches to start the season that
the Tars fell by a narrow one match margin.
Tied 4-4, the match came down to the No. 6 singles match. Keegan
Burger took the opening set, 7-6 (12-10), but fell in sets two
and three, 7-5, 6-2.
Rollins fell in an early 2-1 hole after doubles, with the No. 11
ranked duo of Anton
Bettink and Patrick
Sell getting upset in the No. 1 match, 8-4. Adrian Di
Felice and Ziad Mehaoui played together for the first time in
the No. 3 match, defeating Rodrigo Amaral and Justin Zhang.
In singles, No. 4 Bettink knocked off No. 15 Axel Bouillin, 6-3,
4-6, 7-5. The Tars also took the No. 4 and No. 5 matches with Ahmed
Albitar improving to 2-3 on the year after a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win
over Alexandre Miaule and Di Felice moved to 2-1 with a straight
set win in the No. 5 hole.
Rollins will continue their west coast trip on Monday, traveling
to Azusa Pacific.
