WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 26, 2016) - The Tars jumped out to a five run lead, but ultimately needed extra innings to dispel the Embry-Riddle Eagles, 6-5, on Friday night. The win, against the provisional Sunshine State Conference member, is the Tars sixth in a row and moves Rollins' overall record to 8-5, and 1-2 in SSC play. Embry-Riddle falls to 8-4 on the season.

Rollins was led offensively by Mike Purcell. The first baseman finished the night 3-5 with an RBI. Christopher Corbett went 2-4 from the plate in the contest. The Stokesdale, North Carolina native tied the team lead with his third homerun of the season, a two run shot in the second inning. The catcher also scored the game-winning run. Isaiah Russell finished the night 1-4, with a run, and the game winning RBI.

Brian Auerbach got the start on the mound for the Tars. The righty threw 5.1 innings, giving up five runs and striking out three. Brooks Norton threw 1.2 innings of relief, giving up just one hit, and striking out one. Brandon Burgess registered the win for Rollins, moving his record to 2-1 on the year. The Plantation, Florida native pitched four innings, surrendering only two hits.

Rollins got on the board early. Grant Ashline led off the bottom of the second with a single, before he was driven in by Corbett's two run homerun. Rollins would extend the lead in the fifth. Reigning SSC Player of the Week, Peter Nicoletto, started the rally with a walk, followed by Russell slapping a single to centerfield. Nick Breen scored Nicoletto with another single, and Russell scored on an errant pickoff attempt. Purcell sent Breen across the plate with a final single in the inning, moving the Rollins lead to 5-0.

The Eagles responded, putting up five runs in the fifth. Tying the score at 5-5. Both sets of relief pitchers dominated action late in the contest, shutting down the offenses and forcing extra innings.

Corbett led off the eleventh by skying a fly ball directly in front of the batter's box. The Eagle infield could not settle under the ball and Corbett found himself on second after the error. A Nicoletto fly ball moved the runner to third with one out. Russell stepped up and hit a sacrifice fly, just deep enough, down the right field line. Corbett came into score and the Tars piled on the freshman shortstop.

The Tars and Eagles will conclude their series with a double-header on Saturday, February 27. The first game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
