LAKELAND, Fla. (February 26, 2016) - The Rollins softball team opened up SSC play with a win as they defeated Florida Southern, 5-3, on Friday night. Niki Fogle collected her sixth win on the year.

Rollins goes to 9-3-1 on the year and 1-0 in SSC play, while the Mocs fall to 8-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference.

Rollins jumped out to the early lead in the top of the third as Tiffany Osmanski hit a two-out double to right center to score Sid Masso and Hailee Keisling. The Tars didn't wait much longer to extend the lead as Brianne Lint hit a double to center field to score Osmanski from second. Chelsea Reed would get in on the action as she singled to center to score Lint to bring the Tars lead to 4-0.

Senior Fogle kept the Mocs quiet over the next couple innings before Florida Southern used small ball to get on the board. The Mocs scored three runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Rollins' lead to one.

The Tars offense threatened again in the top of sixth by having a runner on first and third, but could not capitalize as the lead stayed at 4-3.

Reed tripled to score Osmanski from first to add an insurance run in the top of the seventh. That is all the senior pitcher would need as she went three up and three down in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.

Individually, Osmanski and Reed went 2-4 with two RBIs on the day while Fogle allowed seven hits, three runs, one walk and struck out ten.

The Tars return to action tomorrow as they complete the weekend series with Florida Southern with a doubleheader. Game one is slated to begin at 1 p.m. For the latest news, updates, and information on the Rollins softball team, fans can visit RollinsSports.com.
