ALBANY, Ga. (February 14, 2016) - The Rollins
softball team split a doubleheader with Albany State Sunday
afternoon at Lady Ram Park. The Lady Rams bested the Tars 3-0 in
the first game, but Rollins was able to shutout the Albany State,
6-0, in the second matchup.
Rollins overall record moves to 3-2-1 while Albany State rests
at 1-3 on the year.
Game 1 featured a pitching duel, as both Niki
Fogle and Abrionna Atkism did not allow any runs through five.
After the first batter flied out to center field, the Lady Rams
were able to get two straight singles in the bottom of the sixth.
First baseman, Toni Coleman sent a rocket over the right field
fence to put the Lady Rams up 3-0.
Brianne
Lint would get on to start the top of the seventh, but that
would be it for the Tars as the Lady Rams closed out the 3-0
victory.
Niki
Fogle was tagged with the loss as she gave up five hits, one
walk and struck out nine in six innings.
The second game was all Rollins as the bats came alive and
freshman, Grace
Street pitched a shutout. The Tampa native struck-out 10, while
only allowing three hits and no walks.
The Tars took the early lead as Hailee
Keisling tripled to lead off the game and then scored on a wild
pitch to make it 1-0.
Rollins would capitalize on three errors by Albany State in the
top of the fourth to go up 4-0 off RBI hits by Brittany
Johnson and Chelsea
Reed. The Tars would add two additional runs in the fifth as
Lint singled to left field scoring Keisling and Hali
Marshall.
Street shut down the Lady Rams the rest of the way to pick up
her first collegiate win.
The Tars will be back in action on Friday as they will
participate in the ESPN Wide World of Sports Citrus Classic in Lake
Buena Vista. The first pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m against Queens
College (N.Y.). For the latest news, updates, and information on
