SET-UP:
The Rollins women's basketball team hosts in-state rival
Flagler on Tuesday evening looking to stop a two-game slide and
grab positive momentum going into the holiday break. The Tars are
coming off an 82-72 loss to Southeastern, one of the top teams in
all of NAIA, on Saturday afternoon. After falling behind mid-game,
Rollins got close late, but couldn't catch-up to the Fire's high
octane offense. The match-up with the Saints is Rollins last
non-Sunshine State Conference affiliated contest of the season.
Flagler will be playing in its first true road game of the year and
was last in action on December 1st in a 76-53 exhibition
loss to Division I Bethune-Cookman. The Saints' two wins this year
came at home against Puerto Rico Rio Piedras and Ave Maria. Rollins
ranks seventh in the nation in rebounds per game and its defense
will be tested against Flagler as the Saints rank second nationally
in fewest turnovers.
WHO TO WATCH:
Rollins: Marie
Gilbert posted a double-double against Southeastern and leads
the Tars with 12.6 points and 4.1 rebounds a game. Julia Inlger has
18 three-pointers and is netting 9.2 points an outing. Jasmine
Stone is scoring 7.9 points a night and Carly
McLendon is getting 7.6 points, a team best 6.9 rebounds and
ranks seventh in the nation with 2.9 blocks a game. Rollins has 10
players who average more than 15 minutes of playing time a
game.
Flagler: Tiffany Hodge is scoring 14.4 points and pulling down
11.4 rebounds a game to lead the Saints. Maggie Flynn and Kierra
Crane each score 10.8 points a night. Alex Alford leads NCAA
Division II with 7.6 assists a night to go along with 8.8 points a
game.
NOTES:
Rollins leads the all-time series with Flagler 25-10,
dating back to the first meeting in 1971. The Saints won 10 of the
first 11 match-ups, but the Tars are currently on a 24-game winning
streak against their foes from St. Augustine. The last meeting was
January 21, 2009 with Rollins winning 83-75 at Flagler.
