WINTER PARK, Fla. - (Nov. 26, 2016) - Rollins
sophomore forward Carly
McLendon set a new program record for blocks in a game with
nine as the Tars made easy work of Warner University on Saturday
afternoon in Warden Arena. Playing in their second game in as many
days, Rollins picked up its second straight win, defeating the
Royals by a final score of 60-38.
The win advances the Tars to an overall record of 4-2 on the
season, while the Royals drop to 5-5 overall.
McLendon earned a game high 13 points as she shot 5-for-5 from
the field and was 3-for-5 from the charity stripe. The Sanford,
Fla. native added seven rebounds, two assists, and put up a new
program record for blocks in a game with nine on the afternoon. Tianna
Rosser led the game in rebounds with 10, while Jasmine
Stone, McLendon, and Denise
Daniels led the team with two assists apiece. Marie
Gilbert followed McLendon in scoring with seven points, and set
a new career high as she earned a game best four steals on the
day.
The Royals saw a team high six points from Sara Poehlman, while
Kaley Schmick pulled in a team best seven boards, including six
defensive rebounds. Poehlman and Randi Chandler led the team in
assists with two each, while I'munique Green and Kashari James
notched one block apiece. Leading the Royals in steals on the day
was Cierra Wilson with three.

HIGHLIGHTS AND QUARTER-BY-QUARTER
ANALYSIS
First Quarter l Rollins opened up to a four point lead
and never looked back, opening up their advantage to as much as 12
points in the first 10 minutes of action after a layup by Marie
Gilbert with 25 seconds to go in the opening stanza. The Tars
out-shot the Royals 30.4% to 11.8% from the field, closing out the
first quarter with a 17-5 lead, including seven points from the
Tars' bench.
Second Quarter l Warner opened the second quarter with a
jumper by Alana St. Clair, but the Tars saw six straight points by
McLendon to pull out to a 16-point lead, 23-7, with 7:26 to go
before halftime. Warner's Charissa Broadway broke the McLendon run
with a layup at the 7:22 mark, but the ensuing four and a half
minutes belonged all to Rollins as the Tars outscored the Royals,
9-0, to take a 32-9 lead before Kaylay Guerrero could get WU back
on the board with a jumper with 2:56 to play in the half. The Tars
poured in five more points to close out the second quarter,
including posting their largest lead of the game off of a free
throw by Tanaya
Jones with 1:35 to play in the quarter. The Tars out-scored
the Royals 20-6 in the second period, entering into halftime with a
37-11 lead.
Third Quarter l Warner came out of the break to shoot
their best quarter of the game, out-shooting the Tars from the
field 31.3% to 23.1%. The Royals kicked off the third period with
eight straight points, including two treys by Kaley Schmick and
Sara Poehlman, to pull to within 18 of the Tars, 37-19. Vernisha
Andrews broke the run converting a free throw at the 6:28 mark,
kicking off a five point run by Rollins that came to an end at the
3:29 mark when Warner's I'munique Green put in two shots from the
charity stripe. The rest of the quarter saw Warner out-score the
Tars, 4-2, to trail by 19 entering into the final quarter,
44-25.
Fourth Quarter l Rollins cruised through the
fourth quarter, leading by as much as 25 with 7:37 to play, and
out-scored the Royals 16-13 to close out the contest with a 22
point advantage, 60-38. Carly
McLendon posted four total blocks in the fourth quarter, and
with her final block of the game at the 1:15 mark, became the
program's all-time leader in blocks in a contest with nine.
