MIAMI SHORES (November 11, 2016) - Rollins
survived a slow start, mounting an epic comeback to defeat Lee 3-2,
in overtime. With the victory the Tars, who now stand at 11-3-3 on
the year, advance to the second round of the NCAA South Region
Tournament. Lee finishes their season with a record of
14-3-2.
The Lady Flames got on the board twice in the first half. Both
scores came from distance and were just able to find their way
under the bar and into the back of the net. Rollins came out of
the half active, applying pressure to the Lady Flames' back line.
The Tars finally got on the board just before the 70 minute mark
when Paxton
Sickler broke through the Lee defense and slotted a ball in the
side netting. Sickler then equalized, with just four minutes on
the clock, putting the ball between the keepers legs, from a severe
angel, deflecting the ball into the goal.
The overtime period was back and forth, with both teams
manufacturing chances. The contest looked destined for a second
overtime period, until Sickler gained control of the ball at the
top of the 18 yard box with five seconds on the clock. The captain
laid the ball off to her fellow senior Mackenzie
Miller, who lifted the ball over the Lee keeper, hitting the
underside of the bar and bouncing down into the goal.
Freshman, Kelly
Rowswell made four saves in net for the Tars.
McKenzie Bricker tallied both Lady Flame goals. Summer Lanter
registered one assist for Lee. Haley Gribler, made 9 saves,
playing the full time in goal.
