WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 29, 2016) - The Tars fell to No.25 Florida Tech in their season opener on Friday evening, by a score of 6-1. With the loss Rollins falls to 0-1 overall, and 0-1 in Sunshine State Conference play, while the Panthers improve to 1-0, and 1-0 in conference.

Rollins was lead offensively by Tyler Fairbanks. The sophomore registered two hits including a triple, and scored the lone Rollins run.

Two Tars split time on the mound. Isaiah Sakany started, pitching five innings surrendering four runs, three earned, and striking out four. Brad Case threw the last four innings for the Tars. The freshman opened his college career retiring the first 11 batters he faced. He finished the night giving up two runs and striking out six.

The Tars faced strong pitching performances from Ty Cohen who threw six innings giving up just the one run, and Grant Willcoxon who earned the save with three shutout innings of relief.

Florida Tech got on the board early, scoring on a throwing error in the first inning. The Panthers extended their lead in the top of the third, scoring two runs on three hits and taking advantage of one Rollins error.

The Tars fought back in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of Fairbank's leadoff triple. With one out, Isaiah Russell hit a sacrifice fly to right field, registering an RBI in first collegiate game, and bringing the score to 3-1.

The Panthers would answer back in fourth scoring a run of their own and stretching the lead to three. Both offenses would then go stagnant until the top of the ninth when Florida Tech sent two across the plate, courtesy of a two run homer by Reid Neal.

Rollins and Florida Tech will conclude their three game series with a double header on Saturday, January 30. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. For the latest news, updates, and information on the Rollins baseball team, fans can visit RollinsSports.com.
