WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 11, 2015) - The
pressure of playing as the nation's No. 1 for the first time in the
program's history proved to be too much for the Tars on Friday, as
they were upset by in-state rival West Florida, 5-1.
The Argonauts controlled much of the game, outshooting Rollins,
20-4, and took eight corners compared to the Tars' three.
Paxton
Sickler accounted for the lone Rollins score on the afternoon
and took a team high two shots.
For the Argos, Kaley Ward recorded a hat trick with Amber
Pennybaker and Audrey Johnson adding a goal each.
In goal, Mary
Spring suffered the loss, making a season high nine saves in
just under 84 minutes in goal while Ana Chumik finished with a pair
of saves in 90 minutes.
West Florida jumped out to an early lead as Ward was able to
deflect a free kick past Spring just 10 minutes into the game. The
score was the first allowed this season for Spring.
The UWF lead was short lived, however, as Sickler answered less
than a minute later. The junior ripped a free kick from 35 years
out that deflected off the left post and into the back of the net
for her first goal of the year.
Ward would put the Argos back up a score later in the half,
hammering home a loose ball in the box when the ball trickled away
from Spring after making a save on a long shot from the right side
of the box.
After the half, it was all Argonauts. First, Pennybaker put home
her own rebound in the 78th minute before Ward picked up
her third on a PK after Spring was with a red card in the
83rd minute.
With the Tars forced to play a man down the rest of the way,
Johnson added a fifth for UWF with just over six minutes left to
play to seal the upset victory.
Rollins will be back in action on Sunday, September
13th, hosting No. 3 Columbus State at 11 a.m. Fans that
can't make it to the game can watch all the action live in HD on
