WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 10, 2015)
The Rollins softball team topped Florida Tech 2-1 Friday night
at MLK Park. The Tars fell behind early only to tally a run in the
fifth and six innings to overtake the Panthers and notch the SSC
victory.
Rollins improves to 33-8 (13-6 SSC) on the year while Florida
Tech slides to 30-14 (9-7) after the result.
The Panthers struck first in the third inning, taking a 1-0 lead
on Nicole Miller's RBI single to right field.
Rollins responded in the fifth frame with a run of their own. Tiffany
Osmanski reached on a fielder's choice with one out then moved
up into scoring position on Sid
Masso's sac bunt. Pinch hitter Hali
Marshall ripped a double down the left field line, scoring
Osmanski, to level the game 1-1.
Co-captain Jule
Kranz led off the sixth inning by belting her third home run of
the season over the left field fence. The 2-1 lead would be all the
Tars needed as Niki
Fogle and the rest of the defense shut down the Panthers in the
top of the seventh to preserve the win.
Niki
Fogle (W, 26-8) outdueled Rachel Pence (L, 19-11) to pick up
the hard-earned victory. Fogle tossed all seven inning, holding the
Panthers to one run on eight hits. Pence was tagged with the loss
after allowing a pair of runs on five hits in six innings of work.
Each pitcher fanned four batters.
Rollins and Florida Tech will play a doubleheader Saturday,
starting at 1 p.m.
