Baseball Drops Doubleheader to No. 19 Saint Leo

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 28, 2015) - Nick Breen had four hits on the day, going 4-for-8 while Carlos Garmendia went 3-for-8 on the day with a home run, but the Rollins baseball team fell in Saturday's doubleheader against No. 19 Saint Leo as the Tars fell 5-1 in game one and 2-1 in game two.

The Tars fall to 15-17 and 2-9 in conference play while Saint Leo is now 26-6 and 7-4 in the SSC.

Game One--Saint Leo 5, Rollins 1

Matt Tulley threw seven innings allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out six batters. Isaiah Sakany, Benny Ely and Brett Mueller combined to finish the remaining two innings, allowing just one run on no hits.

Garmendia and Breen each went 2-for-4 in game one while Peter Nicoletto, Zach Persky, Blake Hutton, Chris Corbett and Bryan Perlmutter each added one hit for the Tars, totalling nine on the day.

Rollins got on the scoreboard in the first inning as Nick Breen singled to right field scoring Garmendia.

Saint Leo answered in the second inning as the Lions scored two runs on two hits. Rollins left 12 men on base throughout the game and it proved costly as Saint Leo scored once more in the fourth inning and one more run in the fifth inning to lead 4-1.

The Lions scored once more in the ninth inning off two walks and a hit by pitch as the Tars fell 5-1 following game one.

Game Two----Saint Leo 2, Rollins 1

Rollins senior pitcher Seth Brenner threw 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. Matt Hendricks came in to close out the game, tossing 2.2 shutout innings.

Nick Breen went 2-for-4 with a double and Carlos Garmendia hit his second home run of the season. Alex Miller and Mike Purcell each had a double as the Tars earned five hits in game two.

Saint Leo took a 2-0 lead in the second inning off three hits.

The Tars answered in the bottom of the fourth as Garmendia hit a leadoff solo home run to left field and Rollins trailed 2-1.

Saint Leo's Liam O'Sullivan threw a complete game, striking out eight and allowing just one run to earn his seventh win of the year.

Rollins continues conference play against Saint Leo on Sunday, March 29 at 12 p.m.
