The Rollins softball team used the long ball to chop down
Oakland City Tuesday night at MLK Park. Jule
Kranz and Chelsea
Reed homered in the 4-0 victory in Game One while Hailee
Keisling and Hannah
Horwath's back-to-back jacks accounted for all of the Tars
scoring in the 4-3 victory in Game Two.
After the victories Rollins jumps up to 26-4 on the year, while
Oakland City falls to 2-8.
Rollins grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first inning of Game
One after Keisling scored from second on Horwath's double to
left.
Brittany
Johnson singled to lead off the fourth inning and scored on Chelsea
Reed's inside-the-park home run off the right field fence to
push the lead to 3-0. The right fielder ran into the fence trying
to make the catch but the speedy Reed was already rounding second
by the time she located the ball.
Co-captain Jule
Kranz smashed her first collegiate home run with two outs in
the sixth to set the final score of Game One at 4-0.
Junior Tiffany
Osmanski (W, 6-0) shut down OCU all night, holding the Oaks
scoreless over seven innings on just two hits to pick up her
6th victory of the year. She also smashed a double down
the left field line in the contest.
Rollins got off to a rocky start in the second game of the day,
trailing the Oaks 3-0 after two and a half innings.
Rollins had two aboard in the fourth frame after a leadoff
single and a throwing error by the pitcher to set the stage for the
reigning SSC Player of the Week Hailee
Keisling. The sophomore tied the game at 3-3 with one swing of
the bat, launching a blast that hit the top of the center field
fence and bounced over. Horwath followed suit with her second home
run off the year over the center field fence, giving the Tars the
lead for good at 4-3.
Hillary
Hon started the game in the circle and tossed the first three
innings, allowing three runs (one earned). Niki
Fogle (W, 20-4) came on in relief to notch her NCAA-best
20th victory of the year. The junior surrendered just
one hit and stuck out six over the last four frames.
Horwath went 3-6 on the day with a pair of doubles and a home
run. Brittany
Johnson also went 3-6 to raise her average to .400 on the
year.
Rollins will be back in action tomorrow when they will host
Albany State for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
