WINTER PARK, Fla. -- (February 8, 2015) -- The
Rollins baseball team (2-4) led Albany State 5-0 but lost 6-5 in
the finale from Pensacola Sunday afternoon.
Rollins led 5-0 entering the bottom of the eighth as Albany
State scored three runs in the eighth and three runs in the ninth
inning to win 6-5.
Freshman pitcher Brian
Auerbach threw a gem, tossing 7.0 innings and allowing no runs
on three hits while striking out seven. Adam
Ogburn entered the game in the eighth inning and allowed six
runs (two earned) as Rollins committed four errors. Brett
Scafidi receives the loss while Albany State's Jeremy Arrin
earns the win.
Christian
Coburn went 2-for-3 with one rbi while six other Tars
registered one hit. The Tars outhit Albany State 8-6, but committed
four errors to Albany State's one.
The Tars led 1-0 in the top of the fourth when Peter
Nicoletto drove in Carlos
Garmendia. Chris Corbett hit his first home run of the year in
the top of the fifth inning giving the Tars the 2-0 lead.
In the top of the seventh Christian
Coburn singled through the left side driving in Bryan
Perlmutter as the Tars led 3-0. The inning continued as Carlos
Garmendia walked in a run, scoring Skip Kovar as Rollins led
4-0.
In the top of the eighth it seemed like Rollins had the win in
hand as Skip Kovar flied out to right field scoring Matt
Hendricks on a sacrifice fly.
Albany State registered six runs on three hits and had four
walks in the final two innings. The Tars left nine men on base
while Albany State left five men on base.
Rollins (2-4) returns home against Bentley this Friday-Sunday,
Feb. 13-15 from Alfond Stadium.
