Sole possession of first place in the Sunshine State Conference
is on the line Wednesday as Rollins travels to Nova Southeastern
for as big a game as the regular season can give. The Tars own a
half-game advantage in the SSC after falling to Eckerd for the
second time on Saturday afternoon. The Sharks come into the game
having won their last two and as always it will be NSU's
high-octane offense against the Tars stingy defense. Fans can
follow all the action live on the Geico Tars Sports Network at
RollinsSports.com and locally on 91.5 FM WPRK.
ROLLINS AT A GLANCE: The Tars saw a seven-game
winning streak snapped by Eckerd on Saturday, 61-58 in a tight game
throughout. Sarah
Taylor led Rollins with 12 points, six rebounds and four
steals. Ashley
Losch and Marie
Gilbert each netted 10 while getting seven and eight rebounds,
respectively. Rollins led 32-24 at the half, but EC shot 55 percent
in the second to surge past the Tars in the final seconds.
Emmalee
Schill tops the Tars season box score with 11.7 points a game,
to go along with 6.6 rebounds. The senior is also sixth in the
league with 24 blocked shots. Losch is scoring 11.3 points and is
fourth in the conference with 7.3 rebounds a night. Julia
Ingler is getting 8.3 points a game, ranking seventh in the
conference in 3-point shooting (.365 pct) and 3-pointers made
(39).
Rollins leads the conference and is fifth nationally with
allowing only 54.7 points on defense. Rollins is fourth in the SSC
in offense, putting up 67.0 a game.
Glenn Wilkes
Jr. (Stetson '81) is in his 29th year leading the Tars and owns
a career record of 647-209. He is the eighth-winningest active
coach in Division II and has the fourth most victories. All-time in
Division II, Wilkes ranks as the 13th winningest and ninth in total
victories.
NOVA SOUTHEASTERN AT A GLANCE: The Sharks were
surprised by Florida Southern two weeks ago, but came back to rout
Lynn their next time out. NSU then won a nail-biter at home against
Barry Saturday afternoon, 57-55. Jasmine Wilkins led the way with
17 points and nine rebounds for the Sharks while Danielle Robinson
and Jessica Valley each scored 12.
Wilkins is fourth in the league in scoring with 13.9 points a
game and leads the league in both shooting, hitting 63 percent from
the field, and blocked shots with 32. Robinson is getting 13.3
points a night, sixth best in the SSC. Kayla Wright is putting up
11.6 points and Monaye Merritt scores 9.9 points an outing. Valley
is averaging 8.3 points and is sixth in the conference at 6.8
rebounds a game.
The Sharks are lighting up the scoreboard for a
conference-leading 78.2 points a game and are allowing 63.7.
LeAnn Freeland (Southern Indiana '97) is in her fourth season
leading NSU and carries an 87-30 record.
THE SERIES: The Rollins and Nova Southeastern
series dates back to just 1999, but the short rivalry had heated up
in recent years. The Tars own a 23-10 edge all-time, including a
74-61 victory in Winter Park earlier this year. Julia
Ingler poured in a career-high 22 points off the bench to lead
the Tars. The freshman shot 6-of-7 from 3-point range and hit all
four free throws. Sarah
Taylor added 17 points and eight rebounds while Emmalee
Schill tallied 12 points. Jasmine Wilkins scored 13 points and
12 added rebounds to pace the Sharks. Alexis Murphy and Molly
Blomer each scored 12.
NEXT UP FOR ROLLINS: The Tars travel down I-4
for the last true road game of the season, facing Tampa on
Saturday, February 21 at 2 p.m. Rollins dominated UT in their game
earlier this season winning 63-46 in Winter Park. Fans can follow
all the action live on the Geico Tars Sports Network at
RollinsSports.com and locally on 91.5 FM WPRK.
