PENSACOLA, Fla. (September 14, 2014) -
The ninth-ranked Tars took on No. 20 Columbus State on Sunday on
a neutral field in Pensacola, eventually falling to the Cougars by
a final score of 1-0.
With the loss, Rollins falls to 3-1 while CSU improves to a
perfect 3-0.
Mary
Spring, again, played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Tars,
making a season high six saves.
Riding high after a 2-1 win over No. 2 West Florida on Friday
night, the Tars came out firing, outshooting the Cougars 13-8 in
the first half but were unable to find the back of the net. Their
best chance came late in the period when senior Brenna
McKee got free on the far side of the box and ripped a shot
that deflected off the bottom half of the crossbar.
The game would remain scoreless through half and would hold
until there was just under a minute and a half remaining. It was
then that Nicole Corcione played a perfect cross to Cassandra Wade,
who headed it past Spring to break the scoreless tie.
The Tars will now travel to Saint Leo on Wednesday, Sept. 17 for
a non-conference match at 7 p.m. EST. Fans can listen live on the
