TAMPA, Fla. (March 8, 2014) - The Rollins
College softball team dropped two close games to thirteenth-ranked
University of Tampa Saturday evening in Tampa. Niki
Fogle and Stephanie
Sullivan both tossed complete games in the 2-0 and 1-0
losses.
Freshman Hailee
Keisling recorded the Tars broke up the no-hitter in the third
with an opposite-field triple.
Tampa scored two runs in the fourth on a solo home run and an
RBI single.
Niki
Fogle (L, 11-4) pitched six innings, holding the Spartans to
four hits and two runs. Fogle walked two and racked up seven
strikeouts in the outing. Her counterpart, Kayla Cox, recorded the
win by tossing seven innings and striking out 14.
Game Two was a scoreless pitchers duel through regulation. Stephanie
Sullivan (L, 5-3) held Tampa to three hits in the first seven
innings. The senior lowered her ERA to 2.42 in the contest.
Rollins threatened in the seventh when Brittany
Johnson reached third with no outs but the sophomore eventually
was left stranded.
Tampa loaded the bases with one out in the eighth and forced the
winning run home with an infield single just out of the reach of
the second baseman.
Courtney
Durbin, Kristie
Hoeffer, and Johnson recorded the Tar hits in the contest.
Hoeffer and Johnson also walked in the game.
Sullivan's final line was 7.1 innings pitched, seven hits, one
earned run, one walk, and six strikeouts.
Rollins and Tampa continue the series tomorrow at Naimoli Family
