BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 28, 2014)
Rollins opened up conference play Friday afternoon with an 11-6
win over the Fighting Knights of Lynn in Boca Raton, Florida.
Eighteen hits, including four by senior Veronica
Alred, propelled the Tars to their 11th win of the
season.
The Tars improve to 11-5 (1-0 SSC) on the year and Lynn falls to
11-7 (0-1 SSC) after the contest.
The Tars jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage in the first
inning. Courtney

Johnson had consecutive singles in the inning to force three
runs across.The Fighting Knights got one back in the bottom of the
inning on a home run by the catcher Devin Kochergen.
Rollins added four more in the second frame to take a 7-1 lead.
Hoeffer drove home Freshman Bailey
Miller for her 17th RBI of the season. Alred
followed with an RBI single of her own, scoring Hailee
Keisling. Fogle drove Hoeffer home with a sacrifice fly. Chelsea
Reed, the eight batter of the inning, knocked in Alred with
another Tar single just beyond the reach of the Lynn shortstop.
Lynn scored two more in the bottom of the third to move the
score to 7-3.
The Tars pushed two more across in the fourth. With one out, Hilary
Brown singled through the middle to score Johnson. Reed scored
the second Tars run after reaching on a fielder's choice.
Rollins added another run in the sixth on a groundout to extend
the lead to 10-3. In the bottom the inning, Crystal Cano doubled
the Knights' score with a pitch-hit three run home run over the
left field fence.
The final inning saw the Tars string together four singles to
push another run across the plate, locking in the final score at
11-6.
Fogle (8-3) recorded the win after allowing four earned runs and
fanning a pair in 5.1 innings of work. Stephanie
Sullivan finished up the contest, shutting down the Fighting
Knights' offense for the final 1.2 innings.
Veronica
Alred recorded four singles on the afternoon and scored three
runs. Fogle recorded three RBIs. Eight different Tars registered an
RBI and scored a run in the contest. Seventeen of the 18 Tar hits
were singles, with Reed's double in the sixth being the only
exception.
Friday's result marks Rollins' 18th straight win over
Lynn University.
