WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 16, 2014) -

In what was a more dominating effort than the scoreboard portrayed, top-seeded Rollins defeated fourth-seeded Valdosta State, 1-0, in Saturday's NCAA South Regional Second Round match.

The win sets a new program record for wins in a season as the Tars improve to 17-2 on the year, advancing to the South Region Final on November 21st and will meet Saint Leo. SLU defeated second-seeded Barry, 2-0, on Saturday to advance to the third round as a six-seed.

Rollins outshot the Blazers 19-3 for the game, including 13-1 in the first half, two of which hit the cross bar.

Paxton Sickler scored the games' lone goal, converting a penalty kick after senior Emma Jones was pulled down in the box in the 20th minute. The score was the sophomore's 14th of the year, tying her with classmate Mora Johnson for the team high. Sickler, Johnson and Emma Bloom each took a game high four shots.

Mary Spring picked up her seventh shutout of the season, recording a pair of saves in 90 minutes.

Rollins will now make their second straight trip to the NCAA Third Round and fourth overall. The Tars are looking for their first ever trip to the National Quarterfinal, falling in each of the last three trips to the Third Round.

As the top-seed in the South, Rollins will host the Third Round and Quarterfinal on Nov. 21-23. The Tars will play six-seeded Saint Leo on Friday with the winner playing the winner of the Southeast Region final between Columbus State and Lenoir-Rhyne, also being played at Rollins on Nov. 21.
