ANDERSON, S.C. (September 7, 2013) -
For the second time in as many games, the Tars (2-0-0) came from
behind to win on Saturday, defeating Anderson University (0-1-0),
2-1.
The scoreboard alone doesn't accurately illustrate just how
lopsided the match was on Saturday, as the Tars put consistent
pressure on the Trojan back line all afternoon long. Rollins
outshot Anderson 33-5 in the final box score, 22-2 in the second
half.
If it weren't for the Trojan All-Conference goalkeeper Kaitlyn
Neipp, who record 13 saves, the final could've been much more
one-sided.
Similar to Thursday night's opener, the Tars fell behind in the
first half when freshman midfielder Corrine Doll headed a corner in
the 33rd minute from Krystal Goss past Rollins keeper Mary
Spring to give the Trojans the 1-0 lead.
The lead would be short lived as freshman Paxton
Sickler tied it at a score apiece with a blast from outside the
left corner of the 18-yard box just four minutes later. It was the
freshman from Apoka's second goal of the young season.
The teams would remain deadlocked in the 1-1 tie much into the
second half before Sickler uncorked another in the 79th
minute, this time from outside the right corner of the box. Neipp
was able to get a hand on it but there was too much on it as it
deflected into the back of the net. Sickler now takes over the team
lead in goals with three.
In goal, Spring earned the win, collecting one save while
playing all 90 minutes.
Rollins will now return home for their home opener on Friday,
Sept. 13 when they welcome the current number one ranked team in
the country, UWF. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Fans can follow
along with all the action live on the Tars Sports Network on
RollinsSports.com. Live audio is also available through the Rollins
Athletics app, available on both Apple and Android devices.
