WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 20, 2013) - The
Rollins baseball team suffered a 4-0 shutout by the Saint Leo Lions
in Saturday's series opener at Alfond Stadium.
Rollins registered four hits in the loss. Brandon
Curson had two hits in two at-bats while Steve
Betcherman and Evan
Rivera had the remaining two base knocks.
Starter Anthony
Figliolia was tagged with the loss in eight innings of work.
He allowed four runs, two earned, on eight hits.
Despite the loss, Rollins' highlight of the game was in the top
of the second as SLU catcher Daniel Torres lined into a 1-6-3
triple play. As soon as Torres made contact with the ball on a 1-1
count, the runners at first and second took off but Figliolia
caught the ball and spun around to catch the runners.
Saint Leo scored late in the game plating lone runs in the fifth
and sixth innings. The Lions scored a pair of insurance runs in
the eighth to push their lead to 4-0.
Michael Dunnigan earned the complete game shutout win. Dunnigan
struck out two and scattered four hits.
Saturday's doubleheader originally set for 1 p.m. has been moved
up to 11 a.m. due to predicted inclement weather. Fans can catch
