WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 12, 2013) -
No. 18 Rollins exploded out of the gates and held on late to
defeat Florida Tech, 6-3.
With the win, the Tars improve to 37-8, 12-7 in the SSC to pull
even in the conference standings with the Panthers, who drop to
25-17 overall.
Rollins wasted no time Friday night, leaping out to a three-run
lead after the first, platting a trio of runs in their first at-bat
on four hits and a Panther error.
The Tars opened with back-to-back-to- back singles by Aimee
Halpin, Hannah
Lovestrand, and Kristie
Hoeffer and each eventually came around to score to give
Rollins the early lead.
After a scoreless second from both teams, Rollins doubled their
lead in the third, again scoring three, this time on two hits and a
pair of FIT errors to take a 6-0 lead. Courtney
Durbin drove in a run in the inning while Niki
Fogle, Tars' starter in the circle, helped her own cause,
driving in a pair.
The Panthers managed a run in the fifth when Elaine Brown earned
a bases loaded walk to cut the Rollins lead to 6-1.
The Tars would hold the 6-1 lead until two outs in the seventh.
It was then that a Kelsey Donahue two-run homerun pushed the score
to 6-3 but Fogle would strike Brown out looking to end the
game.
With the win, Fogle improved to 21-3. Her 21 wins are second
most in Division II.
Hoeffer went 2-3 on Friday with a RBI and a pair of runs
scored.
Rollins and Florida Tech will finish the three-game series with
a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13. Game one is set to begin at 1
p.m. Fans can follow along live with all the action on
