WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 8, 2013) -

It took the seventh ranked Tars (26-2, 3-1 SSC) under an hour to pick up their third conference win on Friday night, defeating Lynn 8-0 in five innings in game one of a three game series.

Rollins scored in each of their four half innings at bat, scoring multiple runs in three of them.

The Fighting Knights (14-11, 0-1 SSC) put two runners on in the top of the first but Tars starter Niki Fogle stranded both and it was all Rollins after that.

Veronica Alred started the offensive assault in the first, homering over the 6' scoreboard in left center with Brittany Johnson on second to take the 2-0 lead. Alred is now second in the SSC with five homeruns.

After a Lynn 1-2-3 second, Rollins added three more in the bottom half of the inning, this time on a three-run homerun to right by senior Aimee Halpin. It was Halpin's third which now ties her with Jessica Gipson and Hilary Brown for second most on the team behind Alred.

The Tars added another in the third on a Gipson sac fly to left to push the lead to 6-0 heading to the fourth.

Fogle retired the Fighting Knights in order again in the top half before Rollins added another pair in the bottom of the inning. Halpin earned a bases loaded walk and two batters later, with the bases still loaded, Alred was hit by a pitch to force in Brown from third for the Tars' final run of the day.

Lynn put a runner on in the fifth but Jasmine Campos was stranded at second to end the game in a mercy rule.

Fogle (13-0) picked up the shutout win, giving up just three hits and didn't allow a Fighting Knight baserunner past second base all evening.

Alred went 2-2 with a homerun, two runs scored, and three runs driven in to pace the offense.

Rollins will finish the three game series with Lynn on Saturday, Mar. 9 with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Fans can follow along with all the action live on the Tars Sports Network on RollinsSports.com
