LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 5, 2013) - The No.
19 Rollins College women's tennis team swept all three doubles
matches and held on after a late rally by No. 14 Cal. State L.A. to
defeat the Golden Eagles, 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tars opened with wins by the duos of Ashley and Lisa Loft, Elissa DeCampli and Ashley Rosenberg, and Carli Davis and Mariana Salvador over Cal State pairings of Christe
Lau and Leora Hemmerich, Tiffani Shalk and Sydney Postal, and Jill
Sangria and Samantha Sismundo in No. 1, 2 and 3 doubles
respectively.
The Golden Eagles then won four of the six singles matches, but
came up short at the CSULA Tennis Complex.
Lau beat DeCampli at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-3, Hemmerich beat Lisa Loft, 2-6, 6-3, 10-3 at No. 2 singles, Shaik
beat Mariana Salvador at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 and
Leung beat Ashley Loft at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 7-5.
Davis and Callie Whitlock picked up the two wins in singles for
Rollins, as Davis defeated Jill Sangria 6-4. 6-2 in No. 3 singles
and Whitlock downed Postal 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 5 slot.
The Tars will be back in action Wednesday, Mar. 6 when they take
on the University of Hawaii - Hilo. Play is scheduled to begin at 9
a.m.
