WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 28, 2013) -
Right-handed pitcher Anthony
Figliolia tossed nine innings of three-hit baseball to lead the
Rollins baseball team past the Eckerd Tritons, 7-1, Thursday night
at Alfond Stadium.
Figliolia pitched in his second complete game of the season and
improves his record to 3-3. The Winter Springs native recorded a
career-high 10 strikeouts while only issuing one walk on the
night.
Behind the right-handers stellar performance, the Rollins
offense exploded for 13 hits, including a solo home run by Boston
Langley in the bottom of the eighth. Four Tars registered
multiple hits with Hunter
Mayfield and Zach
Persky each tallying three. Brian
Lattanzi and Matt
Hendricks added two hits apiece. Hendricks also had a
game-high three RBI on the night.
Eckerd (13-14, 1-9 SSC) recorded their only run of the game in
the top of the second as Chris Hanson crossed the plate on a bunt
single by Lincoln Dunham.
Rollins went silent for the first two innings of play before
putting together a small rally in the bottom of the third.
Mayfield began the rally on a one-out bunt single. Evan
Rivera moved him over to second on a sacrifice bunt and made
his way to third on an infield single by Lattanzi. Both Lattanzi
and Mayfield scored on a Hendricks base hit to right.
The Tars (15-13, 2-5 SSC) did not score again until the fifth,
plating a pair of runs. Mayfield began the frame on a leadoff
double and then came around to score on a RBI single by Hendricks,
scoring his second run of the night. Hendricks then gave the Tars
a 4-1 lead as he crossed home plate on a RBI double.
A lone run in the sixth and another two in the eighth would
bring the final score to 7-1 in favor of the Tars, snapping a
five-game losing skid.
EC starter Jordan Huchro was charged with the loss in six
innings of work. Huchro allowed five runs on 10 hits while issuing
two walks and recording one strikeout.
Rollins will wrap up the Easter weekend conference series on
