WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 1, 2013) -
Rollins manufactured two runs in the bottom of the ninth to
complete a thrilling comeback and beat Assumption 6-5 on a chilly
Friday night in Winter Park.
Rollins (5-6) surrendered its lead in the eighth and were
trailing by one heading into the last of the ninth. Zach
Persky led off the inning with a single and moved to second
after Brandon
Curson was plunked. Both then advanced a base on a Boston
Langley foul out. Matt
Hendricks drew a walk to load the bases and set up a wild
finish.
Brett
Flutie laid down a perfect drag bunt to third base to score
Persky and tie the score. During the play, the Greyhound's third
baseman fell on the attempt to throw out Flutie at first and Curson
scored the game winner as the ball rolled loose on the infield
grass.

Mayfield led Rollins' offense, each going 2-4 with a RBI. Evan
Rivera added a RBI double while Langley, Brian
Lattanzi, Langley and Steve
Betcherman each tallied base knocks.

Murray (1-2) picked up the win in relief, throwing one and two
thirds of scoreless baseball. Brett
Mueller was solid in the start, tossing seven and a third,
scattering nine hits and surrendering five runs, four earned, with
four strikeouts.
Greg O'Donnell highlighted Assumption (0-1), hitting 3-4 while
Travis Smith went 2-4. Cody Rocha took the loss in relief, allowing
two hits and two runs in a third of an inning.
The Tars took control with a run in the second and made it a 2-0
score with another in the fourth. Assumption tied it up in the
sixth and manufactured the go-ahead in the seventh.
Rivera and Persky had RBIs in the seventh to put Rollins back on
top 4-3. The lead quickly disappeared in the top of the eighth as
the Greyhounds took advantage of three walks and a single to plate
two and lead 5-4. Rollins left a runner in scoring position in the
bottom of the eighth and put Assumption down in order in the top of
the next, setting up the exciting ninth.
Three games will be held at Alfond Stadium and Harper-Shepherd
field on Saturday, March 2. Assumption will take on St. Anselm at
11 a.m., Stonehill and Felician meet at 2:30 p.m. and Rollins faces
Felician at 6 p.m.
