WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 15, 2013) - Senior Tara Turner's two-RBI's were the difference on Friday night, as sixth ranked Rollins shutout No. 11 Tampa in game one of a three game series, 2-0.

Friday night's game featured two of the premier pitchers in all of Division II, pitting Tars' Niki Fogle, who came in with a record of 14-0 and a 0.60 ERA, against Kayla Cox of the Spartans. The sophomore hurler came into Friday 12-2 with an SSC leading 0.22 ERA.

The contest lived up to its billing, with the teams combining for just nine hits on the night and 14 strikeouts.

Fogle stranded a runner in each of the first two innings, heading to the bottom of the second in a scoreless tie.

It was then the Tars tallied their first run of the night on a sac fly to deep left field by Turner. Fellow senior Hannah Lovestrand scored on the play to give Rollins the lead, 1-0.

After a scoreless third from both teams, it was again Turner who provided the offense for the Tars in the fourth, blasting a Cox fastball high into the night and over the left field fence for a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.

The Turner homerun would all but end it as Fogle allowed just one base runner the rest of the way, cruising to her 15th victory of the season. The freshman gave up no runs on just five hits and struck out six in seven innings pitched.

Cox (12-3) was credited with the loss, giving up the pair of runs on four hits in six innings of work.

Lovestrand recorded two of Rollins' four hits, going 2-3 with a run scored.

Rollins will finish the three game series on Saturday, Mar. 16th in a double header scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Fans can follow along live on RollinsSports.com
