WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 20, 2013) - The No.
9 Tars continue to roll, coasting to a pair of victories on
Wednesday night over visiting Kentucky State, 4-0 and 7-1
respectively.
Rollins starter Niki Fogle (5-0) made quick work of the Thorobrettes
in game one, needing less than an hour to pick up her fifth win of
the year and first no-hitter in her Rollins career. The freshman
went the full seven innings, giving up no runs on no hits. The lone
KSU base runner came in the seventh on a Tars fielding miscue.
Rollins did all of their damage at the plate in bottom of the
second, scoring four runs on four hits. Aimee Halpin, Hannah Lovestrand and Kristie Hoeffer each registered an RBI double in the
inning, with Halpin driving in two on her one hopper to the fence
in right center.
In game two, the Tars actually found themselves behind early as
KSU platted a run on the top of the first. The inning could have
been a lot worse for Rollins as the Thorobrettes left the bases
loaded.
Rollins would fight back in a big way in the second, blowing up
for five runs, highlighted by a three run blast to right center off
the bat of Halpin. The no-doubter was the seniors first of the
season and moved her into a tie for first on the team with 16
RBI,
The Tars then added one in the third, thanks to an RBI groundout
by sophomore Shelby Walters, and another in the sixth, as Veronica Alred pitched in with a single to center to
drive in Halpin.
Sophomore Taylor McGowan (3-0) picked up the win in game two,
giving up just one run on four hits in seven innings of work.
Rollins will now turn right around and host Kentucky State again
Thursday, Feb. 21 for another double-header. Game one is scheduled
to begin at 6 p.m. Fans can follow along with all the action live
