BOCA RATON, Fla. (October 1, 2013) - The Tars
improved to 7-2-0 on Tuesday, blanking Lynn (2-4-1) 2-0 on the
road.
Rollins has won four in a row, outscoring their opponents 13-2
over the streak.
The Tars saw goals from Emma
Jones, her fourth of the season, and Nicole
Fischer. Fischer's score is her first as a Tar after
transferring from Florida State.
Mary
Spring recorded her second consecutive clean sheet of the
season, playing 90 minutes and collecting two saves, including
stoning a penalty kick by Tatiana Penagos in the 88th
minute. The shutout is her 10th in her career, third
most in Rollins history.
Rollins outshot Lynn, 12-7, while the Fighting Knights took
seven corners compared to just two for the Tars. Rollins was also
whistled for 17 fouls compared to Lynn's 11.
After a slow start by both teams, Jones would find the back of
the net in the 20th minute, set up by a cross into the
box by freshman Mackenzie
Miller. The assist by Miller was her third, second most on the
team behind Paxton
Sickler and Mora
Johnson who each have four.
Fischer would add to the lead just 14 seconds later, giving
Rollins the 2-0 lead with 24 minutes left in the first half.
This was the second time this year the Tars scored two goals
less than 30 seconds apart. The first time coming in the season
opener against S.C. Aiken when Sickler and Brenna
McKee scored just 27 seconds apart but neither could contend
the with current NCAA Division II record for the shortest time
between goals. A record that was in fact posted by Rollins in 2006
when Lindsay Giblin and Jeri Ostuw scored back-to-back goals just
five seconds apart.
Rollins will return home on Saturday, Oct. 5, welcoming SSC
rival, No. 4 Tampa at 7:30 p.m. Fans can follow along with all the
action live in HD on the Tars Sports Network at
