LAKELAND, Fla. (April 20, 2012) - Down after
doubles and halted Thursday due to rain, Rollins picked up Friday
and came back to beat Nova Southeastern 5-3 in the Florida Blue
Sunshine State Conference Championship quarterfinals.
After a break, the fourth-seed Tars will be back on the court at
2 p.m. Friday in the semifinals against top-seed Barry.
On Thursday morning, Rollins (12-9) took an early lead as Kayli Ragsdale and Lisa Loft teamed to upset 22nd-ranked
Alexandra Johansson and Austin Lavalli 8-3 in the top doubles
flight.
NSU (7-14) came back with two quick points before the rains
came. Ashley Rosenberg and Mariana Salvador fell to Dominique Wimmer and
Charlotte Cote 8-6 in the No. 2 match while Elissa DeCampli and Callie Whitlock fell to Daria Burobina and Bianca
Roberts 9-7 at No. 3.
The match was then suspended for nearly 24 hours and moved to
Florida Southern.
The Tars tied the score after Salvador blanked Roberts 6-0, 6-0
in the No. 3 match and Ragsdale scored a 6-2, 7-5 win over Lavalli
at No. 6.
In the top match, 46th-ranked Loft fell to
27th-ranked Johansson 6-4, 6-3 to give the Sharks their
third point. Rollins then sealed the win as Rosenberg completed a
7-5, 6-1 win over 44th-ranked Wimmer at No. 2 and
Whitlock beat Daria Burobina 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 4.
The win avenges a Tars loss to the Sharks earlier in the
season.
