WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 13, 2012) - No. 14
Rollins (31-7, 12-3) is set for a SSC weekend series with the Lions
of Saint Leo (17-28, 2-13). The Tars will square off with the Lions
in a three game series; game one is set for Friday evening at 7 pm
with a double header to follow on Saturday afternoon starting at 1
pm.
After taking two out of three from former sixth-ranked Barry
this past week, including a dominant 15-4 performance in the rubber
match, the Tars continue their ascend back up the polls, checking
in at 14th in the latest NFCA Division II Top 25 poll released by
the Association on Wednesday, April 11th.
Pacing the Tars offense has been junior transfer Aimee Halpin. The Orlando, Fla. native tops the
conference in batting (.413), OBP (.503), runs scored (39), doubles
(14), and stolen bases (28) and trails only teammate Monica Meadows (84) in total bases with 74.
Leading a Tars pitching staff that sits fourth in the country in
total ERA at 1.13, has been senior Hope Bitzer (16-3). Bitzer owns a team best 0.92 ERA
and has given up just 89 hits in 137.2 innings pitched. The
Longwood, Fla. native has also racked up 180 strikeouts, good for
third best in the SSC.
The Lions arrive in Winter Park, Fla. on the heels of a sweep at
the hands of the Panthers of Florida Tech, dropping their record to
17-28 with a 2-13 mark in conference.
A bright spot for the Lions has been the play of senior Brittany
Yates. Yates is batting a team leading .359 with 47 hits and 39
runs batted in.
