TAMPA, Fla. (March 23, 2012) - In one of the
most premier pitching matchups you will find in DII, Rollins senior
pitcher Hope Bitzer was eventually bested by Tampa hurler
Deanna Henriott, as the Tars went down 1-0 in a battle of two top
20 programs.
Bitzer's only blemish came in the fourth courtesy of an RBI
single through the hole in the left side of the infield off the bat
of Stacy Piagno.
Rollins could only manage three hits off of Henriott (15-2) as
she set down one Tar after another. The senior from St. Petersburg,
Fla., struck out 15 en route to her ninth shutout of the year.
Bitzer (12-3) suffered the loss, giving up just one run while
scattering just six hits.
The one bright spot on the evening for Rollins was junior first
baseman Aimee Halpin. Halpin accounted for all three of the
Tars' hits as she went 3-3 with a double.
The Tars will finish up the three game series with the Spartans
in a double header Saturday afternoon with game one scheduled for 1
pm. Fans can follow along on the Tars Sports Network at
