After starting the season with three-straight on the road,
fourth-ranked Rollins returns to Warden Arena Monday to host Puerto
Rico Bayamon for its 2012-13 home opener.
Rollins cruised through its first three games, winning by an
average of 27 points. The season started at the Florida Tech Tipoff
Classic with a 72-49 win over Puerto Rico Mayaguez. The following
day the Tars dispatched Puerto Rico Rio Piedras 75-32.
Rollins was in West Palm Beach Saturday night and used a late
run to beat the Sailfish 57-42. Sarah Blackburn and Ashley Jones
each put up 11 points to pace the Tars. Emmalee Schill added 10
points while Sarah Taylor pulled down 11 rebounds.
Blackburn leads the Tars season box score with 11 points and
seven rebounds a game. She is shooting 63 percent from the field
and 67 percent from the 3-point line. Jones chips in 10.7 points
and 6.3 rebounds a night while Ashley Losch (8.7 ppg) and Schill
(8.3 ppg) are also top scorers for the Tars.
Rollins is shooting 45 percent from the field on the season and
holds opponents to just 29 percent. The Tars have also dominated
the glass, outrebounding teams by an average of 16.7 boards a
game.
Puerto Rico Bayamon is 0-2 on the season, playing in the Saint
Leo Invitational over the weekend. The Cowgirls fell to the host
Lions 72-39 in the opener. Sheyla Martinez led the way with eight
points off the bench. Fabiola Cosme and Kathia Torres each netted
six.
The following day, Bayamon gave Tampa all they could handle, but
fell 54-48 in overtime. Roxairaly Armesto tallied 14 points and 14
rebounds to lead the Cowgirls. Natalie Diaz added 12 points and six
rebounds.
Rollins will next host the 2012 Rollins Thanksgiving Tournament
Nov. 23-24. The Tars will play Tusculum to start play at 1 p.m. on
Black Friday. Charleston and Missouri S&T will follow at 3 p.m.
The consolation game is slated for 1 p.m. with the championship to
follow at 3 p.m. the following day.
