WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.
(October 23, 2012) - In a crucial South Region
contest, 14th ranked Rollins defeated Palm Beach
Atlantic Tuesday afternoon, 4-2.
Rollins took the early lead courtesy of a header by freshman Walker Hume 18th minute. Sophomore Skylar
Russell was credited with the assist, serving a corner kick far
post to the head of Hume, who headed just inside the post for his
fifth goal of the season.
"Just like we practiced all week long," assistant coach Graeme Jaap explained after the game. "We stressed
set pieces for a substantial amount of time all week and it paid
off."
In the 40th minute, junior Alex Bisbee added to the deficit, collecting a
misplay by Sailfish keeper Steven Bush and burying it inside the
far post. Bush mishandled the ball played in to the top of the box
by senior Daniel Salazar, leaving the open net for Bisbee. The
goal was Bisbee's fourth on the year.
PBA cut the deficit in half just before halftime when junior
Kenny Hogg recorded his NCAA Division II leading, 20th
goal of the season. Hogg received the pass from junior Evan Singlar
inside the left side of the box and snuck it inside the near post,
just outside the diving reach of Rollins keeper Keneil Baker.
The Tars answered after the half in the 59th minute
on sophomore Rob Crowley's team leading eighth goal of the season.
Freshman Grant Blackhurst set up the play when he beat
multiple Sailfish defenders down the left side before he found
Crowley six yards out who slotted it past Bush for the goal.
Rollins extended the lead just three minutes later when
Blackhurst once again was credited with the assist, tracking down a
loose ball in the right corner before serving it into the box to
senior Joe Crowley who deflected it in the open net.
The Sailfish added their second goal in garbage time when Evan
Singlar scored on a low ground ball shot from 25 yards out in the
88th minute.
Baker registered three saves in the win, playing all 90 minutes
in goal.
The Tars finish up their regular season Saturday, Oct.
27th when they host Florida Southern. Fans can follow
