KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 5, 2011) - The Rollins
women's soccer team dispatched a tough Kutztown team, 3-0, Monday
afternoon. The Tars improve to 2-0 on the season and post their
second straight shutout of the season.
Field conditions were going to be a factor in the game with
heavy rain falling before the Noon kick-off. Rollins took advantage
of a quick start scoring two tallies in the first half. Ali
Schrader and Emma Jones used two aggressive runs towards the frame
to collect the two tallies. The Tars relied heavily on the stingy
back line with Anita Cox coming up with a team save off her own
goal line to keep the clean sheet intact. Senior defender Charlotte
Murrell orchestrated the Tars' defense and allowed the Tars to
counter quickly against the Golden Bears.
In the 24th minute, Waplinger took a throw-in for the Tars and
delivered a perfect ball to the feet of Schrader, who then played a
strike into the box finding the feet of Jones. The freshmen
delivered a hard strike to the back of the net to put give Rollins
a lead they would not relinquish. Rollins struck again in the 35th
minute with Schrader collecting a goal from a perfect feed from
Kelsey Boone to give the Tars a two goal lead heading into
halftime.
Both teams came out of the half aggressive with Kutztown nearly
collecting their first goal of the game with a hard strike from
Sarah Black that forced Michelle Dillingham to make a tough save to
keep the Golden Bears off the board. Rollins would weather the
storm from the Golden Bears and create a few chances of their own.
After a few minutes of play in the second half the rain began to
fall heavily, which caused problems for both teams. Waplinger would
cap off the scoring with a goal in the 90th minute of the game,
putting the game out of reach.
Rollins will rest up and welcome West Florida into Barker Family
Stadium at Cahall-Sandspur Field on Friday, Sept. 5 at 5 p.m. Fans
