WINTER PARK, Fla. (May 6, 2011) - After a late
rally by the Tars tied the score at five runs apiece, Rollins fell
7-5 in the ninth to the Saint Leo Lions Friday night at Alfond
Stadium. The Tars fall to 26-22 on the year and 5-14 in the
Sunshine State Conference.
Tony Brunetti and Brian Lattanzi each got three hits off the
Lions as Rollins recorded double-digit hits for the seventh
consecutive game. Lattanzi had two doubles, a run scored, and one
RBI, while Brunetti added a stolen base.
Rollins rallied late in the game after two ties and being down
by three runs in the eighth. The Tars scored their usually first
inning run, followed by a lone run in the third and fourth. Zach
Persky and Brian Lattanzi scored Rollins' two runs in the eighth to
tie the score. Persky led off the (eighth) inning with a single up
the middle and scored on a Lattanzi double to right center. Three
batters later, Lattanzi scored on a ground out to second.
With the score all knotted up, Rollins ran into some trouble in
the ninth after loading the bases on back-to-back hits and an
intentional walk. Rollins was able to get the second out of the
inning at home to preserve the tie, but gave up a run on a bases
loaded walk, followed by a two-out single.
Right-handed hurler Garrett Yount (5-4) was charged with the
loss in two-thirds of an inning on the hill. He gave up two runs
on three hits.
Saint Leo second baseman Ryan Brnovich managed three hits off
the Tars, along with two RBIs and a run scored. Reliever Henry
Johnson (2-1) picked up his second win of the season in one inning
of work. Johnson gave up one hit. Closer Austin Buck earned the
save with one inning on the mound, giving up one walk.
Rollins wraps up the weekend series with Saint Leo tomorrow
afternoon on Senior Day as 10 senior members will be honored for
their hard work and dedication. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
