ALTAMONTE SPRING, Fla. (April 16, 2011) - Using
solid singles play, ninth-ranked Rollins held off upset-minded
26th-ranked Saint Leo 5-3 on Saturday in the Sunshine
State Conference third place match.
The Lions made a big statement in the No. 1 doubles match as
Rollins' 14th-ranked duo of Jeff Morris and Arturo
Baravalle were upset by 24th-ranked Matt Nicholson-Lewis
and Victor Lozier by a score of 8-3.
The Tars were still able to score an early lead as Jason
Alabaster and Nick Rowlands downed Aloua Adjenak and Jose Morales
8-3 at No. 2 while Sebastian Hafner and David Yawalkar took Pablo
Chaves and Tom Gleeson 9-7 in the No. 3 match.
Rollins went on to win the No. 1 and No. 6 singles matches to
score the victory. Morris was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Nicholson
Lewis in the top spot and Chris Herbert took Morales 6-4, 6-3 at
No. 3.
Rollins now awaits the draw for the 2011 NCAA Division II
Championships.
