ALBANY, Ga. (March 7, 2011)- The Rollins softball team came up with two strong hitting games to sweep the season series with Albany St., 19-0 and 16-1. The pair of victories move the Tars to 15-1 overall this season, while Rollins remains perfect in conference play with a 3-0 mark.

Game one saw the Tars rattle off seven runs in the first inning, a deficit the Rams would not be able to overcome as Rollins would post another twelve runs to end the game in five innings.

Rollins had eight players tally RBIs with five of them tallying multi-RBIs in the offensive explosion. Christine Roser led the way with four RBIs on the day, while Monica Meadows tallied three of her own. Rollins had eight of the nine hitters tally a hit against the Rams, which allowed them to put pressure on the defense, which yielded four Albany St. errors.

Kirsten Frame and Amye McIntyre combined to pitch five scoreless innings with the duo allowing a total of two hits and seven strikeouts on the afternoon.

Hiliary Brown and Roser provided the offensive fireworks with both tallying homeruns in the game, which now gives Roser 39 career homeruns.

The Tars combined for 16 RBIs on the 19 total runs scored, showing the balanced offensive attack Rollins possesses.

Game two saw Rollins again jump out to a large lead in the first inning, posting six runs. The Tars would use another strong pitching performance and strong offensive attack to hold the Rams at bay.

Roser took to the circle, allowing three hits and one earned run and punching out seven Ram batters on the afternoon en route to her second victory of the season.

The offensive onslaught continued, with Brittney Pumpelly leading the way with three RBIs and Nikki Gouldthread, Hope Bitzer, Veronica Alred all notching two RBIs apiece. Rollins could have done more damage offensively, but left six runners on base in game two.

Since dropping their only game to Hawaii Pacific, the Tars have used timely hitting and exceptional defense to capitalize on their chances, while holding their opponents silent.

With the pair of victories, Rollins will continue its trip through Georgia when they will visit Ft. Valley St. for doubleheader action, March 8.
