VALDOSTA, Ga. (February 19, 2011) - The
10th-ranked Rollins women's tennis team gave No. 5 West
Florida a run for their money, but were unable to upset the Argos
as they dropped by a close 5-4 margin at neutral site Valdosta
State.
Rollins (3-1) was down 2-1 after singles competition as the No.
24 duo of Margaret
Junker and Kayli
Ragsdale fell to Caitlyn Baines and Taylor Brewster 8-2 in the
first position. The tandem of Roshni
Luthra and Stefania
Tkach took the next doubles win with an 8-4 finish over Mariana
Sonnervig and Hannah Durham in slot three, but the Argos clinched
the No. 2 position with an 8-4 victory as Luiza Sonnervig and
Jacqueline March defeated Lisa
Loft and Ashley
Rosenberg.
Clinching the first singles win was March for UWF, who defeated
Rosenberg in the No. 5 slot 6-0, 6-1. Brewster followed close
behind as she defeated 26th-ranked Luthra 6-3, 6-4 in
the first position, followed by Sonnervig, who routed Loft in the
third slot 6-0, 6-4.
Despite being down 5-1, the Tars clinched the final three
flights, with Tkach claiming the next victory as she defeated
Sonnervig in the second position 6-3, 6-2. Junker took down Baines
6-3, 6-3 in the second position, with Mariana
Salvador claiming the final set 6-1, 6-4 over Naomi Higa.
The Tars return to action on Wednesday, February 23, when they
host the University of Tampa at 3:30 p.m. For the latest news,
