FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (January 29, 2011) - With
2.0 seconds left on the clock, junior Paris
Moore secured the Tars third consecutive Sunshine State
Conference win as No. 19 Rollins (18-3, 6-3) defeated the Nova
Southeastern Sharks 80-79 at the Don Taft University Center.
Rollins finished with three Tars scoring in double-digit figures
with Julie
Gorman notching a career-high and first double-double of the
season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Paris
Moore and Kourtnie
Berry each added 15 points apiece with Moore collecting her
second double-double of the season with 10 rebounds.
The final 10 minutes of play in the second half was a
back-and-forth race between both teams each taking a turn at the
lead. After a loose ball foul was called on Kristina
Mingos with 10:30 on the clock, NSU's Kristina Cabrera was
drawn to the line to give the Sharks a one-point lead, 62-61.
Following multiple lead changes, Rollins managed to gain hold of
a lead and led by as many as five with 4:17 on the clock, 76-71.
The Tars managed to keep possession of the ball for a little over
two minutes, which worked in the their favor, after Rollins picked
up a foul with 19.6 seconds left in the game with NSU trailing by
two, 79-77.
Nova (10-8, 3-6) then tied the score at 79-all on an Abbie Tepe
drive and was fouled, but missed her free throw and gave Rollins
possession on a jump ball. Moore was then called to the line on
the next possession with 2.0 seconds on the clock as Tepe fouled
out and secured the Rollins win.
Rollins did struggle early in the game as the injury-plagued
Tars made their way from a 10-point deficit to come from behind and
tie the score, 35-35, heading into intermission on a Julie
Gorman buzzer beater.
The Tars trailed by 10 on two occasions with their last coming
at the 5:39 mark and came within two, 33-31, after a 12-4 run with
less than three minutes in regulation. Rollins went 11-of-14 from
the charity stripe in the first half with six of the Tars free
throws coming from the 12-4 run.
Rollins returns to Warden Arena this coming week as the Tars
host the Tampa Spartans on Wednesday, Feb. 2. Tip-off is slated
