VALDOSTA, Ga. (May 6, 2010) -
The seventh-ranked Rollins men's tennis team rolled past Fort
Valley State 5-0 on Thursday to advance to the second round of the
NCAA Division II South Region Tournament.
The Tars will face fifth-ranked Lynn at 2 p.m. Friday in the second
round.
Rollins easily took each of the three doubles matches to grab a 3-0
lead. In the top seeded match, fifth-ranked Jeff Morris and Neil
Clausen defeated Tommy Williams and Kenneth Thornton 8-2 while
Nick Rowlands and Chris Herbert took
the No. 2 match over Drew Belk and Brandon Pringle 8-4. Pablo
Seijo and Arturo
Baravalle took the No. 3 match by shutout, downing Kelvin
Oliver and Dwayne White 8-0.
Morris and Seijo sealed the win for the Tars in singles play with
shutout wins. In the top match, seventh-ranked Morris downed
Williams 6-0, 6-0 while Seijo took Belk by the same 6-0, 6-0 score
in the No. 3 match.
The Fighting Knights beat Rollins twice this season, most recently
a 5-0 defeat at the SSC Tournament. In the regular season, LU
defeated the Tars 8-1 with a Morris victory at the top singles spot
being the Tars lone point.
