WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 16, 2010)-

The Rollins softball team added another important conference victory after getting a scare from Eckerd, Friday evening. The Tars prevailed with a 7-2 victory to improve to 33-4 overall and 12-1 in conference play, while Eckerd fell to 14-28-1 overall and 4-12 in conference.

The Tritons started the game with a leadoff single from Emma Docking and would be brought home by a two-run homerun by Kristen Schurr. Schurr drove a ball deep to centerfield and a misjudgement by Brittney Pumpelly saw the ball bounce off her glove and over the fence. The homerun propelled the Tritons to a 2-0 lead after the top half of the inning.

Rollins would answer in the bottom half, scratching across one run as Lauren Caldwell reached by an error in center field and Caldwell ended up on third after the play. Amber Pederson walked to give runners on the corners and the Tars elected to try a double steal, but Pederson was caught in a rundown and eventually scampered back to first safely, but that allowed Caldwell to reach home uncontested.

Reigning SSC Pitcher of the Week Alex Sasso stymied the Rollins offense as the Tars struggled to collect hits. The fifth inning saw the
Tars break through to score five runs to secure the victory.

Rollins would add another run in the sixth to push the lead to 7-2 and that proved to be enough for Kirsten Frame as the game would end with no more runs being scored.

The freshmen Frame improved her record to 23-2 as she struck out four and allowed only three hits in seven innings of work.

Offensively, Lauren Caldwell paced the Tars attack as she went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Jessica Moreland led the Tars with two RBI and Krista Rodden, Pumpelly and Pederson all collected one RBI apiece.

The two teams will resume the series with doubleheader action slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday from Lake Island Park.
