LAKELAND, Fla. (April 16, 2010) -
Rollins fell into a 3-0 hold after doubles and couldn't recover
in single play as the eighth-ranked Tars fell to third-ranked Lynn
5-0 in the semifinals of the Sunshine State Conference
Tournament.
Fourth-seed Rollins (16-9) will play in the third place match
against host and third-seed Florida Southern at 9 a.m. on Saturday,
Apr. 17.
The top seeded doubles match featured two of the nation's top duos.
Lynn's Alessandro Sarra and Willi Wolfer entered the match as the
third-ranked tandem in the nation while Rollins' Jeff Morris and
Neil Clausen are ranked fourth. The clash lived up to its billing
with the Fighting Knights earning the point with an 8-5
victory.
Pablo Seijo and Nick Rowlands were turned back in the No. 2 match
8-1 by Alex Voirin and Luc Pavanelli while Girts Dzelde and
Constantin Sturdza fell to Tomas Racak and George Laffey 8-3 at No.
3 doubles.
Lynn sealed up the match with a pair of quick singles wins. In the
No. 4 match, Sturdza lost 6-2, 6-4 to 32nd-ranked Pavanelli and
Dzelde fell in the No. 3 match 6-2, 6-3 to 38th-ranked Wolfer.
Rollins and seventh-ranked Florida Southern met in Lakeland in the
regular season with the Mocs scoring a 6-3 victory. Seijo and
Rowlands won the top doubles match for the Tars while Dzelde and
Sturdza won in singles. FSC fell to the third-place match after a
5-0 loss to Barry.
